Who We Are
Our Ministry Team
Ed & Kathie Chiu, our senior pastors, have been with us since 1997 and have seen the Lord do wonderful things in those 12 years. They have been pastoring churches now for 15 years in Saskatchewan and British Columbia and are well known in our community for their involvement in social ministries.
Ed also takes his role as pastor and chaplain outside our ministry to the community. He has been an active member of the Haney Rotary Club for several years. He is also the RCMP Chaplain for the Ridge Meadows detachment. Ed also has his advanced certification in Crisis Intervention and heads up our Emergency Disaster Services.
Kathie is also the Executive Director of our social ministries. She is a member of the Social Planning Advisory Committee to Mayor and Council and has sat on numerous committees in our community including the Child Youth & Family Network, Homelessness Task Force and is a founding member of The Alouette Home Start Society.
Ed & Kathie have five children and eight grandchildren, with their two youngest children still at home. They enjoy getting together with family and spending their time off at their trailer with their boys relaxing and enjoying the Sunshine Coast.

Darrell Pilgrim
Director of The Caring Place Ministries
Darrell is the son of Salvation Army Officers and has been working for the The Salvation Army in various locations throughout Canada and the US since graduating from The University of Western Ontario in 1997. He has been with The Caring Place since September 2008. Living in Mission with his wife and son he has a passion to represent the love of Christ to all he comes in contact with.
Manda Poole
Operations Manager
Manda came to The Caring Place in November of 2002 as the Administrative Assistant. Although born in BC, she moved with her parents, who are Salvation Army officers back east and then to the prairies before settling back in BC. She lives in Maple Ridge with her husband and son. The Caring Place is where she feels God has placed her for His purposes on a daily basis.
Tim Sarsfield
Food Services Manager
Tim was born in Dublin, Ireland. He trained as a chef in the United Kingdom going on to work in Switzerland, France and Germany. Tim came to Canada in 1991 and worked as Production Manager at a large bakery in Richmond BC. In 1996 he moved to Maple Ridge and opened Crumbs Bakery Café and then in 2000 opened “More” Crumbs Bakery Café. Before coming on board with the Salvation Army in 2007, Tim worked at Wendell’s Bookstore and Café in Fort Langley. Tim is married to his beautiful wife Marie and they have one son, Elliot, who is 17.
Michael Emery
Shelter Manager
Michael, our Shelter Manager, moved to BC 15 years ago from a small town in Nova Scotia. He trained as an RN at Douglas College. Mike grew up attending the Salvation Army where he met his best friend, Polly, who later became his wife. They now have three children, Matt 18 and Danielle & Bradley who are 12.
